Atticus Finch
Atticus Finch is the father of Scout and Jem. He is a single father and works a full time job as a lawyer and is Tom Robinson's lawyer in the story when he is accused of rape. Atticus is nice and polite and does his best trying to instill those qualities into his children. Although he is a good father he can't always be there for his children so he hired a maid named Calpurnia. Atticus doesn't change much throughout the story but he shows courage when he decides to defend Tom Robinson during the trail. This is courageous of him because most white people at that time thought that black people were always guilty and were lesser than white people but he defended him anyway because he believes in the law and in doing what is right.
